Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goal of planting 5000 trees in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea neighborhoods. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
GES Tree Planting Project, started thanks to the great work and effort of organizations such as, the Sierra Club, the Colorado Latino Forum, the Chaffee Park Neighborhood Association, and the Elyria Swansea Neighborhood Association, and residents of GES, represented by Earthjustice, that filed a lawsuit against the I-70 Project and in 2017. An agreement was made between plaintiffs and CDOT in August 2018. As part of the agreement, CDOT contributed $ 25,000 to tree planting in GES. The funds were turned over to the Nature Conservancy by the plaintiffs, EGS & Partners contacted NC to be part of the project and to carry out the tree planting project, as we believ the project was a common project, and that’s how EGS & Partners started the project, Sandra Ruiz Parrilla, Arielle Milkman, Jorge Mario Merida started community outreach, planning and looking for partners. In 2019, EGS & Partners and other group in the GES community became partners to lead the Tree Planting Project. Diffrent different groups as well as plantiffs started incorporating in the projecy. As 2021 EGS & Partners decide it to the project just with residents of GES and that’s how it became the GES Tree Planting Project. As now there are three different groups groups doing tree plantings, and EGS & Partners has changed their name to Cuahuitl Project. Cuahuitl wich means ‘Tree’, a náhuatl word, because we are proud of our mexica roots.
Our program includes community building, education, community outreach, events, mapping, collaboration, workshops, planning, fundraising events and planting trees where they are need it.
Our goal is to plant as many trees in neighborhoods affected by contamination and pollution.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those we serve. And a big difference in our environment.
Join us at the opening of our new community gallery this Saturday, August 26.
Our gallery will serve to promote local artists as well as artists from our Healing with the Arts programs.
The gallery will also be a platform to raise funds to purchase trees and give away to three of the most polluted neighborhoods in the country, which are located in North Denver.
